Between 9 November 2016 and 9 April 2017, over 30,000 people were forcibly evicted from Otodo-Gbame and Ilubirin settlements in Lagos State, a metropolitan city in South-West Nigeria. These evictions were carried out in defiance of court orders, without prior consultations nor adequate notice. Compensation and adequate alternative housing were not provided for evictees. During these forced evictions, security forces and unidentified men killed 11 people. At least 17 people also went missing.

Five years later, at least 12 residents of these communities have died due to trauma and poor living conditions in host communities. Others have been displaced again as some of the communities that hosted them have been demolished and others face threats of evictions. Children have been forced to stop their education as a result of multiple displacements.

Demand that Lagos State authorities should consult with affected evictees of Otodo-Gbame and Ilubirin communities with a view to resettling them within the state as ordered by the Lagos State High Court in its judgment of 21 June 2017.
