Amnesty International Nigeria Board Statement Refuting Allegations

On behalf of the Board of Directors of Amnesty International Nigeria, we issue this statement to fully refute the allegation that the Country Director, Osai Ojigho was sacked from her position based on wrongdoing. This is not true. The organization investigated the complaints made against her at various times and concluded that the issues raised were entirely unfounded and she was cleared of all allegations. We also refute the allegations made against the organisation and our staff that there were breaches of Amnesty International’s work. There is enough evidence of the human rights work we have been doing and continue to do. For more details see our website

We reiterate our message congratulating Osai Ojigho on 30 January 2023, welcoming her new appointment as the new global Policy and Campaigns Director for Christian Aid starting in March 2023.

Amnesty International has been telling truth to power and holding Nigerian security agencies to account. Our position is and remains the same, that human rights violators must be held to account – no matter how powerful they are.

Signed

Auwal Musa Rafsanjani

Chair, Amnesty International Nigeria Board
