YOUTH4CLIMATE PROGRAM

Youth4Climate: Climate Voices is an inspiring opportunity designed to empower young people with practical skills in evidence-based research, reportwriting, and storytelling. Through this program, participants receive training and are subsequently supported to investigate pressing climate issues within their communities.
As part of the program, each youth climate researcher will produce a narrative report and a video documentary that presents their findings and proposes actionable solutions to the identified environmental challenges in their communities.
The culmination of this process will be the co-creation of a Community Action Report, a collective document that captures local climate issues and how they are impacting communities, with practical recommendations to address these climate change issues. The report will empower both youth and their communities to take meaningful action to address climate change at the grassroots level.

Rationale

Youth are among the most affected by the climate crisis in Nigeria, but only a small proportion are meaningfully involved in climate action or advocacy efforts. This disconnect highlights the need to equip young people with the knowledge, tools, and platforms necessary to become drivers of change.

To build a climate-resilient Nigeria, it is imperative to empower youths as leaders, storytellers, researchers, and solution-builders in the fight against climate change, especially at the community level, where the impacts are most keenly felt.

Youth4Climate: Climate Voices initiative aims to empower youth as active storytellers and researchers, leveraging their creativity, local knowledge, and skills to advocate for climate action.

By empowering youth with data collection, storytelling, and research skills, this program ensures these lived realities are captured, understood, and acted upon, transforming affected youth from passive victims into empowered agents of climate justice and resilience.
